Schedule

Upon arrival (exact time to be determined based on the time of year), the group will begin the outing with a discussion of objectives, skill level, equipment needs, and essential bird photography techniques. Depending on the selected location, we will spend much of the morning walking a flat route. A portion of an auto tour route may be included. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice photographing birds of various species, both perching or floating, and in flight. We’ll discuss techniques along the way and delve into bird identification. After photographing, we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch, further discussion of the points covered, and a review of the best locations for bird photography.

BIO

Sacramento resident Michele McCormick is a widely exhibited photographer. Upon retiring after a long and successful career in public relations, she turned her energies back to her first love: photography.

She entered the fine arts arena in 2012, and her images have since been frequently published, honored, and exhibited. In 2015 and 2017, her work was included in the prestigious Crocker Kingsley show. Her images have been exhibited at numerous locations, including juried shows at venues including the California State Fair Fine Arts exhibit, Los Angele’s 1650 Gallery, Portland’s Black Box Gallery, Carmel’s Center for Photographic Art, and local galleries and events including Viewpoint Photographic Art Center, Blue Line Gallery, Lodi’s Spring Art Annual, the Auburn Artwalk, and the KVIE Art Auction along with many other area exhibits.

Her wide-ranging portfolio includes portraiture, landscape, travel, and nature.

In the COVID era, her work has taken on a new direction. Deprived of many of her usual photography themes and subjects, she expanded her long-standing interest in migratory bird photography. Recognizing that Sacramento has a rich avian population throughout the year, she began to focus on bird photography – and found herself immersed in a new passion.

That work has resulted in solo exhibits at Viewpoint Photographic Art Center, Niello Acura, and various commercial venues.
