Kelley Palmer: Within The Shadow
For Kelley Palmer, the making of visual art is governed as much by the laws of nature as by the imagination.
This exhibit, Within the Shadow, starts with a selection of shadows. The art of a shape cast upon a surface when an object blocks its source of light.
Shadows are everywhere. The first one Palmer photographed looked like an airplane window. Her favorite is a reflection from a bathroom mini blind.
The process is layering color filters, shifting contrast and perspective, then adding design using text tools to create minimalistic abstract works of art – symbolic forms that invite interpretation rather than depict a specific scene.
