The ICM Experience with Jan Lightfoot

Break free from traditional photography’s constraints and unlock your imagination’s power.  ICM, or in-camera motion techniques, provide opportunities for creative experimentation and can result in unique and visually striking images. ICM is much more than simply using slow shutter speeds. It’s all about capturing the essence of a subject through color, shapes, lines, and beautiful light. The ICM approach is incredibly accessible for anyone at any level in photography.

In this workshop, you will discover the basics of ICM:  how to set up initial camera settings, learn different ways of moving your camera, take in your surroundings, and learn how to see things differently. You may be surprised at how much freedom you have to create beautiful and meaningful images.

We will have fun with ICM taking pictures at the local Farmer’s Market near the Viewpoint.
What to bring:

  • A camera in which you can control shutter speed, f-stop, and ISO rating—and an understanding of how they correspond.
  • Neutral density filter(s)if you have them.
  • Laptop computer with a card reader.
  • Flash drive.
  • An open mind and willingness to play and have fun!

Like developing in the darkroom, we will work with images in post-processing, and the final effects could pleasantly surprise you! You will walk away from this workshop with the confidence to begin your ICM adventures.
