Dennis Scott: Musicians at Work

Since that first request in 2005, Dennis Scott has revisited a form of photography that he had not explored since his college days: live performances. Digital cameras enable him to record music events without the limitations of film, such as the number of exposures or low sensitivity in dim light.  When he photographs a band performing, there are a few shots they all want, such as an image of the whole band on the stage and individual shots of each performer.  However, Dennis aspires to go beyond the basic shots by capturing the stage antics and facial expressions that make each band unique.

Black and white imaging allows him to focus on the performers without the distraction of color. All the exposures were made with existing venue lighting, with many at 25,000 ISO.  He has over 800,000 images of various musicians over the last 20 years.  However, the images in this exhibit were created in the last few years.
