Capturing the Action: Nature, Action & Sports Photography with David Wong
While nature, action, and sports photography can be very satisfying, it can also be demanding. There are no “do-overs,” and you often can't control whether you can stage the shot you want. You may have traveled thousands of miles to photograph a once-in-a-lifetime event, so getting it right from the first shot is essential.
What you'll learn in the two-part workshop:
- Best camera settings for action, nature, and sports photography.
- Shooting with telephoto lenses and choosing the right focal lengths.
- Understanding composition for action photography with different lens choices.
- New! Pre-capture capabilities for select cameras, including newer models from Nikon, Canon, OM, Sony, and others.
- Extensive discussion on how to use pre-capture to save shots before you hit the shutter button—something bird-in-flight photographers often struggle with.
Part 1: In the morning session, you will learn the three biggest mistakes new action photographers make when attempting to capture that magical action shot. Experienced photographers understand how to set up their shots; it isn’t just a matter of luck, being in the right place at the right time, or using the “spray and pray” technique. There's a specific strategy involved, which we'll discuss and review in detail.
Part 2: You will meet with David Wong in the field at a local wildlife preserve. You'll take the information you gathered the day before and practice your action photography. A field review and discussion will round out the morning.
