EXHIBIT PROPOSALS

Each year Viewpoint offers an open call for solo and group exhibit proposals from May through June for the following year. All photographic artists who submitted are notified regarding selection by early October.

Submission for this open call is free. Bodies of work chosen for the Main Gallery may be paired with another photographer(s) work that is compatible. The Step Up Gallery is reserved for members and generally features one exhibitor. The open call is posted on the Viewpoint website and promoted through Viewpoint's weekly newsletter and social media.

Viewpoint's Curatorial Committee considers all open call entries equally through a fair and comprehensive review process. Each year new artists apply providing Viewpoint with a wide range of talent and subject matter. It is the goal of the committee to create a year of photographic art that is balanced in subject matter, execution and diversity. Viewpoint presents 22 exhibits each year organized by the Curatorial and Installation Committees in the Main Gallery and the Step Up Gallery.

Criteria for Exhibit Selection:

  • Subject or concept of the body of work
  • Artistic execution
  • Artist’s written interpretation of the work
  • Group exhibit proposals for up to 3 artists
  • Minimum of a 3 year waiting period between exhibits (either in the
  • Main or Step Up Galleries)
  • Step Up Gallery exhibitors are Viewpoint members
  • Gallery space and capacity
  • Ability to deliver the work as outlined in the artist’s proposal

OPEN CALLS FOR GROUP EXHIBITS

Viewpoint also offers four Open Calls for group exhibits each year which are posted on this website:

  • April/Photography Month: Themed Open Call, open for all to submit (membership is not required), juried selection for exhibition, cash prizes awarded
  • April/Photography Month: Student Exhibit, open to all actively enrolled students of photography in the greater Sacramento region, cash prizes and memberships awarded to exhibitors
  • July, Annual Members’ Exhibit: open to all current Viewpoint Members
  • Nov/Dec: Themed Open Call, open to all (membership is not required), juried selection for exhibition, cash prizes awarded
