Taking Your Camera for a Walk: American River Canyon

Location: Meet at Quarry Road Trail Parking Lot, American River Canyon, Auburn State Recreation Area.
This workshop will take place within the Auburn State Recreation Area and provides us a practical opportunity to practice seeing exercises and photographic techniques with the goal to improve the images we make. Also. this workshop gives us time to work together, photographically, to share ideas, to look for interesting natural subjects and backgrounds, and explore a popular canyon area below Auburn, California. Workshop attendees will meet at the Quarry Road Trail Parking Lot at 8:45 a.m. At 9:00 we will begin walking along an old haul road following the Middle Fork of the American River while exploring and making images as we go. We will use the morning light and the shadows of the north-facing slope to explore multiple shooting conditions for about a mile and a quarter to the picnic area where we can explore and later have lunch before returning to the parking lot. During the walk, we will see native plants, ferns, canyon trees and chaparral plants as well as views of the river as we walk along. The canyon is rich in birds and other wildlife, canyon geology, historic structures and various angles of changing light within its wild landscapes.
Please plan to arrive at 8:45 a.m. so everyone can successfully park and be ready to go at 9:00 AM. I will be there earlier to welcome you and be of help if needed.
Bring water, lunch, trail snacks and any camera you want. Wear comfortable walking shoes, and layers (it can be chilly in the morning). Cell signal maybe "spotty" at best in the canyon. We hope you can join us on this special photographic walk in the canyon.
