This is a hands-on nature photography experience! While in the field at Effie Yeaw we will discuss composition, and light; work on our exposures and discuss aspects of nature and wildlife photography.  Depending on the weather and cloud conditions we will either photograph the sunrise over the American River or in the woods at the nature center. Following sunrise, we will hike the trail system on the lookout for scenery and wildlife. Wildlife in the area includes deer, coyote, turkey, rabbits, and many species of birds. Lewis will give tips on the best settings for wildlife photography including exposure and focus points. He will discuss the benefits of photographing in manual mode in wildlife photography.

After our field session there will be a several hour break for you to process your images and have lunch. Then we met back at Viewpoint for an afternoon review session looking over your images and getting suggestions for composition and processing techniques. We will end between 3 and 4 PM.

Equipment suggestions:

Camera and wide angle to short telephoto (i.e., 24-120; 24- 105; 24-70 or even 16-35) for the sunrise session.  A tripod for sunrise.

For the trail session lenses up to 400-600mm would be recommended.
